Actinic Keratosis prevention campaign encourages everyone to ‘FACE THE FACTS’
At Galderma, we understand that the skin we are in shapes our life stories. That is why, in May, we marked Skin Cancer Awareness Month with the launch of our Face the Facts Campaign to raise awareness of actinic keratosis (AK).
Galderma’s awareness campaign invites people everywhere to “face the facts” about AK, become more alert to risk factors, and learn what they can do to protect their skin.
Skin damage due to the sun can build up over time, leading to the development of AK patches on the skin. This is the most common pre-cancerous skin disease caused by sun damage, and it affects around 1 in 4 European residents aged 60 and over. However, AK rates are also increasing in those as young as 40. With an ageing global population, the overall number of people with AK is growing.
Our multi-language, multi-channel campaign shares useful information with both healthcare professionals and the public. It aims to bring attention to this increasingly common pre-cancerous skin disease and empower individuals with the knowledge to take great care of the unique skin in which they are living.
A dedicated site to build AK awareness
The initiative, including our month-long social media campaign, centers on our dedicated website. It is designed to help people everywhere become more aware and learn how to protect their skin against sun damage, AK and skin cancer.
The site’s resources include:
-
Images of AK-affected skin to show people exactly what to look for
-
Statistics on the prevalence of this condition
-
Advice on avoiding sun damage, such as tips for choosing the best sunscreen
-
A list of factors for increased risk of AK
With this campaign, Galderma is supporting the fight against skin diseases and promoting excellent health. Encouraging people around the world to stay #AKaware is one more way we are advancing dermatology for every skin story.
